  4.     TIME does not capitalize the name of the planet earth, and some
  5. readers are curious about the reason, since we do capitalize Venus,
  6. Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto and so on. The explanation: following
  7. grammatical rules for capitalizing proper names, we uppercase those
  8. celestial bodies named after mythological gods. Inasmuch as the
  9. earth, the moon and the sun have no mythical forebears, they remain
  10. lowercase.
